BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE
![]()
To learn about rocks, we completed a webquest called Between a Rock and a Hard Place. For this webquest, each group of students was given a rock sample. They had the name of the rock and a few pieces of information about where the rock came from. Their goal was to decide whether their sample was igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic. They imagined that Dr. Matt A. Morphic needed help making a rock exhibit for the United States Geological Survey. The students researched the three types of rocks and used that information to draw a conclusion about what type of rock their sample was.
The students created a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation of their research that could be shown to Dr. Morphic.
The presentations were uploaded to Slideshare and can be viewed using the above tabs: Anthracite (small sample), Anthracite (big sample), Rhyolite, Dolostone, Quartzite, and Calcareous Tufa.
So, were these scientists correct with their conclusions? Check out the comments below the slideshow to find out!
